Topdress: the re-application in the nursery

Recoating cover is an important technique to keep plants in excellent condition

Ensures excellent coloring and supports their growth in a balanced way over time. This practice is used when the basic fertilization in the soil is reduced or exhausted, or when there is a need to quickly greene the plants before sale.

Since the requirements are very different, the technical characteristics of the commercially available products are also different.
The main characteristic on which it is based the reconcimying is so called controlled cession, that is fertilizers in which the release of the nutrients is controlled, based on the type of membrane with which they are covered and in function of a determined temperature.

Among the criteria for choosing the right fertilizer are precisely the durability of the product and/ or its grain size:

• Each granule is wrapped in an organic resin membrane. Water penetrates the granule through the lining membrane and dissolves the nutrients. These are given in a controlled way by the action of osmotic pressure. The raw materials of fertilizers and the thickness of the coating are the components that determine their durability.

The duration of cover fertilisers usually varies from 2-3 months to 8-9 months: The 2-3 months products are to be preferred if you are looking for a rapid re-application in view of an imminent sale, if you want to intervene several times during the growing season or if you need a late summer recoiling. To cover an average period such as late spring recoveries, products from four to six months should be preferred, while a longer duration should be used to limit interventions or if a prolonged effect is sought.

• Osmocote Topdress 8-9 months is ideal for those who want to make a single seasonal application and contains a complete package of microelements.
